April 25, 2013 Print version
Hello to all the Brave Soul friends & supporters! It's been a while since you've seen or heard from BSC so I figured as we gear up for what promises to be an exciting spring & summer season, I'd give you an update on where we've been & what's coming up...
First up, for all those who didn't get to catch "BALANCING ACTS: Tales of Triumph, Trial & Error", our most recent performance for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 2013, we now have the official DVD recording of the Feb 9th show available! Touching not only on the impact of HIV/AIDS in the black community, "BALANCING ACTS" also tackled issues like religion & spirituality, teenage sexual health/parents discussing safe sex with youth, getting HIV test results, starting HIV treatment, and individuals in deep conflict about their sexuality who choose to lead double lives. You can check out images from the performance (captured by Shawn Spencer, Spencer's Photography) here & to get a sneak peek of DVD recording, visit our Brave Soul Youtube Channel. Details about how to purchase the dvd or request a copy for promotional purposes will be available next week when we unveil our May 2013 updates.
2013 year marks our 7th anniversary & I'm working diligently on some performance and community events to commemorate this milestone which is extremely significant for me because so much has happened in the last seven years (both personally & professionally). It seems like only yesterday that I was "charged" with the work of spearheading the "Brave Soul Movement" & thus chose to share my own personal story as a young black gay artist living with HIV (alongside founders Tim'm & Erik). Please be sure to check out our forthcoming updates for a more in-depth look back & glimpse into what lies ahead.
As the seasons change, I hope everyone is enjoying the warm(er) weather and I look forward to sharing more about what's on tap for BSC, including an all new artist feature & much more!
Until then, be encouraged, be good to yourselves & BE BRAVE!
Much love from Monte J.
